Rebuilding a Workshop That Was Never Delivered

First, a little background info. My bachelor's is in psychology, focused on learning and cognition and am currently halfway through my communication master's program. Before that I spent years building self-directed learning blogs for adult readers. All of this has lead to a focus in instructional design and I’ve decided to build my portfolio in public.

I’m starting with the rework of a module I built in 2018 that I never got to present.

One of the main tools I’m using to build my portfolio is my Obsidian based PKM (personal knowledge management system). I’ll continue sharing ways I use this system and how it helps me throughout the build.

Project 1: A Module on Academic Stress and Burnout

If this job were for a real client, they would come to me with the program already running. They’d likely have delivered it a few times and found it lacking in one or more ways. This would provide me with a starting point to work from.

Instead, I have a module I built in 2018 that was never presented at all.

When I was a Student Learning Assistant at the UCCS Academic Commons, I built a short workshop on academic burnout, but the program was canceled before any of us presented. You can view the full artifact below.

Next Steps

The Needs Analysis: This typically starts with collecting data about the people who experienced the learning initiative. Since I can’t do that with a module that was never presented, the analysis will have to depend on existing public data and peer-reviewed literature.

This Week’s Goal: A statement containing the performance problem this module addresses and which parts of that problem instruction cannot fix.
